Brief History

Thika Road Christian Nursery School was begun in 1978 as a church ministry. It grew to four nursery classes which accommodate 110 children and two pre-unit classes preparing children for Standard 1. In 1985, Thika Road Christian School began with one Standard 1 class. The pioneer Standard 8 class sat for K.C.P.E. for the first time in 1992. The following year a second stream was begun with two Standard 1 classes. Each year one class was added until the double stream was finished in the year 2000.
Several development projects were completed in the following years: School dining hall and kitchen, football field and athletics track, basketball court and parking area. In January 2008, a third stream of classes from nursery through Standard 8 began and was completed in 2015. The following year, the pioneer Form 1 class started and sat for KCSE in 2019. In 2021, Thika Road Christian Teacher Training College was registered and will present its first KNEC candidates in December. Growth has been gradual but steady from head start (Playgroup) to college with a total capacity 60 classes with approximately 1,800 students.
